Yuno launches app to help landlords keep track of licensing requirements

Landlord proptech firm Yuno has launched an app to help landlords keep up to date with local licensing rules.

The firm claims the platform will help monitor changes, compliance and Article 4 planning checks. Yuno’s service provides users with free instant manual licensing checks, helping to reduce the risk of hefty fines and sanctions.

Research by Yuno revealed more than 600,000 landlords are failing to provide tenants with safe and healthy homes by not keeping up to date with local licensing rules.

According to its data, the South East had the highest number of landlords breaking the rules by region, at 84,000, followed by London (82,024). Northern Ireland had the lowest rule breaking (13,590).

Yuno described landlord licensing as a “postcode lottery” as it differs from council to council, with the rules changing on average every nine days.

“Understanding the licensing regime is a minefield – made worse by it changing from council to council, with changes coming in on average every nine days,” said Yuno founder Paul Conway.

“I suspect that most landlords won’t know that their homes aren’t conforming to licensing standards. Change is afoot, and the government is looking at proposals to transform the sector but this is going to take time.

“My argument to landlords is why wait? If fined, landlords face £30,000-plus in legal costs and a whole lot of stress for all parties, £50,000 for those in Scotland – the solutions to making it a healthier home will likely be much cheaper.”
